Close family sources and respected figures in the creative industry have confirmed the passing of the gospel icon. Popular sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah, widely known as Fredyma, announced the news in a heartfelt Facebook post, confirming that Yaw Sarpong had indeed passed away.

Yaw Sarpong was a pioneer of modern Ghanaian gospel music and the long-time leader of the Asomafo Gospel Band. Together, they produced numerous timeless gospel classics that shaped worship music across churches and Christian gatherings nationwide.

Yaw Sarpong’s death comes barely a month after the passing of Maame Tiwaa, a key member of the Asomafo Gospel Band. The back-to-back losses have plunged the gospel music fraternity into deep mourning.
