The funeral of legendary Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, is taking place today after a court injunction that briefly threatened the burial was vacated.

The funeral is proceeding after maternal family members who obtained the injunction failed to meet a GH¢2 million undertaking ordered by the Accra High Court. Their inability to pay the amount by the deadline automatically nullified the injunction.

On Friday, the Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Kofi Diaba, initially restrained the family head, Kofi Owusu, from organizing the final funeral rites and barred Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body. The court noted that affidavits suggested some immediate family members had been sidelined and emphasized the need for broader family consultation in line with customary practices.

Later the same day, the court reconvened and ruled that due to costs already incurred, the applicants must deposit GH¢2 million by 2:00 p.m. or the injunction would be vacated.

By the close of day, the applicants were unable to raise the required amount. As a result, the injunction was lifted, and Transitions Funeral Home was directed to release the body, allowing the funeral to proceed as planned.

Final preparations resumed at Heroes’ Park, Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where the venue was decorated with canopies, carpets, billboards, and photographs celebrating Daddy Lumba’s legacy.

Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60. He released over 30 albums and produced timeless songs including Aben Wo Ha, Sika Asem, and Theresa.

His funeral marks the final farewell to an artist whose music shaped generations and left a lasting impact on Ghanaian culture.
