The Opportunity

Plan International Ghana is seeking a skilled Project Manager to lead the SHE LEADs Project in selected districts of the North East, Upper West, Ashanti, and Greater Accra regions. This role involves providing technical expertise, managing project implementation, and ensuring strategic coordination among the project team to achieve objectives. The Project Manager will offer daily leadership and report directly to the Head of Programs and Influencing.

Role Dimensions

Planning and Management:

  • Lead lobbying, advocacy, and policy implementation efforts to enhance girls’ and young women’s participation in decision-making and leadership.
  • Develop annual action plans and budgets aligned with the She Leads Theory of Change and results framework.
  • Support CSO partners in creating their annual action plans.
  • Provide effective leadership and management for the project team.

Implementation:

  • Execute lobby and advocacy actions from the annual plan, focusing on national stakeholders.
  • Maintain relationships with She Leads stakeholders, including government, NGOs, CSOs, and the private sector.
  • Identify opportunities to influence stakeholder policies and practices.
  • Build networks with CSOs involved in national advocacy on gender-based violence and economic exclusion.
  • Support districts and LNGOs in monitoring policies on gender-based violence and economic exclusion.
  • Conduct and disseminate research findings.
  • Write and publish content on girls’ and women’s rights for internal and external audiences.
  • Assist Plan International Ghana and LNGO partners in regional or district-level actions.
  • Implement capacity development support for LNGO partners to enhance advocacy effectiveness.
  • Coordinate project activities with She Leads Consortium partners and LNGO partners.
  • Work with Gender and Communications Specialists to create advocacy materials promoting equal rights for girls and young women.

Budgeting and Financial Control:

  • Monitor project spending against budget, ensuring timely submission of progress and financial reports.
  • Support resource allocation and maintain appropriate financial controls.
  • Ensure financial processes comply with relevant financial manuals and partnership standards.

Monitoring:

  • Actively monitor project implementation through field visits and stakeholder engagement to assess progress and address potential risks.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports on the She Leads program’s progress.
  • Lead technical support team meetings to discuss progress and develop strategies to achieve project objectives.

Capacity Development & Relationships:

  • Provide capacity development and coaching to local women’s rights and GYW-led organizations using participatory approaches.
  • Cultivate strong and respectful relationships with women’s rights and GYW-led organizations.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Experience managing advocacy programs for Girls and Young Women (GYW).
  • University degree in Education, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Development Economics, or related fields; other degrees considered based on experience.
  • Master’s degree in Development Studies or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of field experience with NGOs in developing countries.
  • Experience in gender development projects and familiarity with the girls’ education sector in Ghana.
  • Experience in budget management within donor-funded projects.
  • Experience working in Ghana, particularly in urban areas.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong project management skills with experience in donor-funded projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other ICT tools.
  • Experience managing teams of 7+ staff.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, including donors, government, and the private sector, and coordinating multi-stakeholder forums.
  • Skills in report writing and monitoring and evaluation.
