The University of Ghana is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Teacher/Senior Teacher (Mathematics) in the University Basic School. This role involves delivering high-quality education while also engaging in various responsibilities that enhance the academic and operational functions of the institution.
Position Overview: The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of the University Basic School. The primary responsibilities include developing and implementing lesson plans that meet curriculum standards, utilizing diverse teaching methods to address different learning styles, and integrating technology to improve educational delivery. Maintaining a positive classroom environment, addressing disciplinary issues, and providing timely feedback to students and parents are crucial aspects of the role. Additionally, the candidate will be involved in curriculum development, mentoring junior teachers, and participating in professional development activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and execute lesson plans in line with curriculum standards.
- Adapt teaching methods to suit various learning needs.
- Employ technology and interactive tools to enhance classroom learning.
- Ensure a supportive and disciplined classroom environment.
- Handle student behavior and disciplinary issues with fairness.
- Design and assess student evaluations to track progress.
- Offer constructive feedback to students and guardians.
- Adjust teaching strategies based on assessment data.
- Support students with special needs and collaborate with special education staff.
- Provide additional help and tutoring to students needing extra support.
- Cultivate an inclusive classroom culture respecting diverse backgrounds.
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress and concerns.
- Work collaboratively with school staff and participate in school meetings and events.
- Maintain accurate student records and adhere to school policies.
Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field and possess a valid state teaching certification for the relevant subject area and grade level. A minimum of 5-7 years of teaching experience is required, including experience in leadership or mentoring roles. Strong knowledge of mathematics, effective communication skills, classroom management, and proficiency in educational technology are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong organizational and collaborative abilities.
