The University of Ghana is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Teacher/Senior Teacher (Mathematics) at the University Basic School. The selected individual will be expected to deliver high-quality education and contribute to various academic and operational responsibilities within the school.
Position Overview
The Teacher/Senior Teacher (Mathematics) will report to the Head of the University Basic School. This role requires not only effective teaching but also involvement in mentoring junior staff, curriculum development, and initiatives aimed at enhancing educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans in line with curriculum standards.
- Employ diverse teaching methods to meet varied learning styles and needs.
- Incorporate technology and interactive activities to enrich the learning experience.
- Maintain a supportive and well-organized classroom environment.
- Enforce classroom rules and address disciplinary issues fairly and consistently.
- Design and administer assessments to track and support student progress.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and parents, using assessment data to refine teaching strategies.
- Support students with special needs and collaborate with special education staff.
- Offer additional help and tutoring for students needing extra support.
- Promote a positive, inclusive classroom culture respecting diverse backgrounds.
- Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and concerns.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to improve the educational experience.
- Engage in professional development to remain updated on educational best practices.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
- Prepare reports, attend staff meetings, and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
- Adhere to school policies and health and safety regulations.
- Perform additional duties as required by the Head of School.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must possess:
- A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- A valid state teaching certification/license in the relevant subject and grade level.
- 5-7 years of teaching experience.
- Leadership experience or a background in mentoring.
- Strong subject matter expertise and pedagogical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Effective classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Proficiency in educational technology and innovative teaching methods.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively and lead teams.
