The Network/Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and optimizing in-house computer software systems and network connections to ensure high availability and security of the school’s applications. This role involves maintaining the stability and integrity of voice, data, and wireless network services through careful planning and design of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).
Additionally, the Network/Systems Administrator will handle the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network and system hardware, software, and communication links. This position requires analyzing and resolving network issues efficiently and providing necessary end-user training. The Administrator will also help develop and implement policies and procedures that align with the school’s vision, industry best practices, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Collaborate with the IT Manager and team to evaluate network capacity needs.
- Maintain documentation for network and systems configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
- Develop and uphold policies and plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
- Support capacity planning and strategic goals for systems and software development.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Design and deploy LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, and other hardware.
- Research and report on networking products, services, protocols, and standards to the IT Manager.
- Oversee hardware and software upgrades.
Operational Management
- Ensure smooth and reliable network operations to support the school’s objectives.
- Monitor network performance and address issues as needed.
- Manage the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Ensure network connectivity for all devices, including servers, workstations, and telephony equipment.
- Handle servers, including database, email, print, and backup servers.
- Maintain network component inventory and documentation.
- Monitor and report on network performance.
- Manage network security solutions and conduct server and security audits.
- Perform system backups and recovery.
- Oversee security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
- Manage operating systems, end-user software, and communication solutions.
- Ensure data integrity and security in accordance with privacy and compliance standards.
- Handle input/output devices like printers and scanners.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and storage allocations.
- Anticipate and resolve hardware and software issues, escalating as necessary.
- Analyze system performance and recommend improvements.
- Conduct research on emerging technologies to support system development.
- Create reports based on user needs.
- Develop and maintain system administration policies and training plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the IT Manager and Head of School.
Qualifications
Formal Education & Certification
- University degree in Information Technology or Electrical Engineering.
- Certifications in Microsoft, Google Suite, Apple, Aruba/Cisco Systems, and AlienVault are essential.
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
- Knowledge of network capacity planning, security principles, and best practices.
- Proficiency in network and PC operating systems, including Windows and Mac OS X.
- Familiarity with telephony systems, GrandStream Systems, and VoIP Systems.
- Technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards.
- Hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Application support experience with Microsoft, Apple, and Unix products.
- Understanding of data privacy practices and relevant laws.
