Project Brief
Market Oriented Value Chains for Jobs and Growth in the ECOWAS region (MOVE): The MOVE project aims to build resilient cashew and rice value chains, creating jobs and income in West Africa. With ECOWAS as its main political partner, the project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Union, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It operates in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal.
Scope of Role
The Junior Technical Advisor will work closely with the Private Sector Component team, addressing issues in implementing the component’s activities. Responsibilities include identifying problems, developing solutions, managing knowledge, and assisting with the development of strategies for food safety standards and supply chain linkages. The role involves managing the Private Sector Component, advising partners, and maintaining communication with all stakeholders.
Key Tasks
Private Sector Development
- Implement projects related to increasing value addition of processed products in the project countries.
- Prepare terms of references, guidelines, and documents for contracting consultants and partners.
- Provide technical assistance to rice processing factories and organize training on food safety standards.
Professional Advisory Services
- Advise partner institutions on needs, concept development, and technical input.
- Assist in the coordination process and joint project activities.
- Monitor the development and implementation of project plans and activities.
Management and Coordination
- Support administrative processes for private sector development in the ECOWAS region.
- Assist in project planning, concept development, and implementation.
- Facilitate communication with technical, cross-cutting, and administrative units.
Communication and Networking
- Regularly communicate with key project partners and stakeholders.
- Document knowledge management and distribute relevant information.
- Monitor interactions between government institutions, NGOs, and society.
Knowledge Management
- Develop strategies, technical concepts, guidelines, manuals, and procedures.
- Assist with research activities to support program implementation.
- Compile information on partner work plans and ensure knowledge transfer.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks as requested by management.
- Prepare training materials and support consultants in coaching partner institutions.
Qualification Required & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Nutrition, Food Engineering, or related fields.
- At least two years of relevant professional experience in donor-assisted projects or similar roles.
- Experience collaborating with private sector actors (farmers, processors, investors).
- Knowledge of food safety standards, dietary plan development, and rice value chains.
- Experience in stock control, quality assurance, and marketing.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel regularly and work in a multinational environment.
- Proficiency in English and relevant Ghanaian languages; French is an added advantage.
