Purpose
The Internal Audit Manager ensures that the internal audit function aligns closely with the organization’s strategies, objectives, risks, and industry best practices. This role optimizes the effectiveness of internal control, risk management, and governance by providing risk-based, objective assurance, advice, and insights.
Major Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a risk-based Annual Internal Audit Plan for BRAC Ghana, approved by the Board of Directors.
- Conduct risk-based audits and system-based audits to identify control weaknesses.
- Prepare assurance reports on internal control effectiveness and executive summary reports on internal audit findings, including physical verification of inventory, fixed assets, and cash management.
- Plan and conduct audits to assess controls, operational and technical efficiencies, and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist the CEO in assessing governance systems and managing existing risks, responding to emerging risks, and proposing new developments.
- Continuously revise reporting systems, timelines, and formats to enhance the communication of internal audit observations.
- Review institutional policies to evaluate controls related to achieving value for money and preventing fraud and irregularities.
- Assist the Director of Internal Audit in governance assessments and risk management.
- Prepare quarterly audit reports for the Board Audit Committee.
- Conduct routine audits of institutional processes and procedures for compliance.
- Ensure information systems audits comply with ISACA/ISO standards.
- Promote gender parity in staff recruitment and maintain acceptable staff turnover rates.
- Analyze existing controls and recommend improvements to ensure operational and technical efficiency.
- Perform self-compliance audits through internal control questionnaires (ICQ) and audit compliance of ICQ through regular and surprise audits.
- Supervise and review information systems (IS) audits to ensure adherence to IS audit and assurance standards.
- Identify and articulate residual risks where existing controls are inadequate.
- Follow safeguarding reporting procedures and encourage others to do so.
- Stay informed of legislative issues, new audit regulations, and audit methodologies.
- Ensure team members are trained, supported, and have access to resources for identified issues, following safeguarding policies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
- Professional accountant (Chartered Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Information Systems Auditor preferred) with experience in a reputable chartered accountancy firm.
- Approximately 8 years of experience in internal audit, including Finance, Assurance, Compliance, Risk Management Services, and information systems audit, with at least 5 years in a senior role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Strong understanding of IIA standards, income tax, value-added tax, financial and internal control systems design, compliance, and risk management services.
- Proficiency in establishing budgeting and financial management systems and designing ERP for an organization.
- Expertise in financial control, internal audit, risk management, business process evaluation, budgeting, IT control, communication, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and goal orientation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, people management, and leadership abilities.
