Job Vacancy for Fundraising and Project Manager at WASCAL Ghana

The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) is inviting applications for the position of Fundraising and Project Manager. This two-year contract role, based at the organization’s headquarters in Accra, Ghana, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable development, climate resilience, and renewable energy advancement in West Africa.

The successful candidate will lead WASCAL’s Fundraising and Project Management Unit (FPMU) and report directly to the Executive Director. The deadline for applications is 28th November 2025 at 5:00 p.m. GMT.


About WASCAL

WASCAL is a West African intergovernmental organization comprising 13 member countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and Burkina Faso. It is dedicated to providing climate change research, capacity building, and innovative environmental solutions to strengthen resilience across the subregion.

With 17 graduate programmes hosted by top universities, WASCAL supports research and development in climate science, renewable energy, agriculture, land use, and green hydrogen technologies.


Key Responsibilities of the Fundraising and Project Manager

The selected candidate will play a strategic role in expanding WASCAL’s funding portfolio, managing projects, and enhancing donor partnerships.

1. Fundraising and Resource Mobilization

  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising and partnership strategies.

  • Engage traditional and non-traditional donors including governments, development banks, and private sector partners.

  • Prepare and submit high-quality funding proposals and concept notes.

  • Design and manage donor engagement events such as roundtables and fundraising campaigns.

  • Maintain strong relationships with key donors and partners to support WASCAL’s strategic objectives.

2. Project Management and Oversight

  • Provide centralized oversight and coordination for all ongoing WASCAL projects.

  • Establish systems and tools for efficient monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.

  • Support WASCAL’s accreditation process with Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Global Environment Facility (GEF).

  • Supervise the development and execution of new project portfolios.

3. Capacity Building and Coordination

  • Strengthen internal capacity in fundraising and project management through training and mentorship.

  • Ensure synergy across departments to align fundraising and project goals.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Develop performance metrics and monitor outcomes across projects.

  • Submit periodic reports to the Executive Director and ensure compliance with donor standards.


Qualification and Experience

Education

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, International Development, Environmental Science, Economics, or a related field.

Professional Experience

  • At least five (5) years of progressive experience in fundraising, project management, or business development within international or development organizations.

  • Proven record in mobilizing donor funds and managing large-scale projects.

  • Experience in climate change, renewable energy, or sustainable development is an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong strategic thinking and results-oriented mindset.

  • Excellent communication and networking abilities.

  • Fluency in English and French (both written and spoken).

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.


Location and Duration

📍 Location: WASCAL Headquarters, Accra, Ghana
