The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, a public-benefit federal enterprise, operates in over 100 countries globally. Working on behalf of the German Government, GIZ supports both public and private sector clients in areas such as economic development, energy and environment, and peace and security. In Ghana, GIZ focuses on three key areas: Climate and Energy, Sustainable Economic Development, and Peaceful and Inclusive Societies.
Project Overview
The new initiative, “Strengthening the Ghanaian Pharmaceutical Sector with a Focus on Local Vaccine Production,” aims to bolster the pharmaceutical private sector, particularly vaccine production. The program focuses on:
- Enhancing coordination among public and private sector actors, especially the national regulatory authority.
- Training specialists for the private sector and scientific community.
- Promoting research and development.
- Supporting the pharmaceutical private sector.
Role and Responsibilities
As the Communications Specialist, you will manage both external and internal communications to effectively convey the program’s activities and achievements to various audiences, fostering internal collaboration. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing creative communication and visibility strategies.
- Planning and monitoring impactful communication strategies and activities tailored to specific target groups.
- Producing and distributing communication materials, adhering to GIZ and donor requirements.
- Organizing public events and VIP visits, managing media relations, and ensuring media coverage.
- Providing strategic communication advice and capacity building to the program team and partner institutions.
- Enhancing internal communication and knowledge exchange within the program team and contributing to GIZ’s broader communication efforts.
- Ensuring compliance with GIZ procedures, documenting work processes and results, managing suppliers, and coordinating with team members and partner institutions.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have:
- A university degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
- At least three years of professional communication experience, with familiarity with Ghana’s media landscape and strategic communication in development projects.
- Skills in visual communication and media production.
- Excellent writing, editing, and copywriting abilities, capable of simplifying technical concepts for broader audiences.
- Experience in project and event management, including budgeting and logistics.
- Proficiency in ICT technologies, including the MS Office suite and various media production tools.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of German is advantageous.
- A dynamic, detail-oriented, and diplomatic personality with strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
- The ability to work both in a team and independently, handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and perform under pressure.
