Project Overview:
The “Market Oriented Value Chains for Jobs and Growth in the ECOWAS region” (MOVE) project aims to develop resilient cashew and rice value chains, contributing to job creation and income growth in West Africa. ECOWAS serves as the main political partner, with the project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Union, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The MOVE project operates in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal.
Role Description:
The Junior Technical Advisor will collaborate with the Private Sector Component team, addressing issues in implementing the component’s activities. Responsibilities include identifying relevant problems, formulating solutions, developing instruments, managing knowledge, and assisting in the development of strategies for food safety standards and effective supply chain linkages. The advisor will manage the Private Sector Component in alignment with project goals and activities, advising partners and cooperating with key stakeholders, including financial institutions, while maintaining effective communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Private Sector Development:
- Implement projects related to increasing value addition of processed products.
- Prepare terms of references, guidelines, and documents for contracting consultants and external partners.
- Provide technical assistance to rice processing factories and organize training on food safety standards.
- Professional Advisory Services:
- Advise partner institutions on needs identification, concept development, and strategy formulation.
- Contribute to coordination processes and joint project activities.
- Monitor the development and implementation of project plans in consultation with counterparts.
- Management and Coordination:
- Support administrative processes for private sector development in the ECOWAS region.
- Assist in project planning, concept development, and strategy implementation.
- Facilitate communication with technical, cross-cutting, and administrative units.
- Communication and Networking:
- Maintain regular communication with key project partners and stakeholders.
- Document knowledge management and ensure information distribution.
- Monitor communication between government institutions, NGOs, and society.
- Knowledge Management:
- Develop strategies, technical concepts, guidelines, manuals, and procedures.
- Support research activities and studies to aid program implementation and learning.
- Compile information on partner work plans and ensure knowledge transfer.
- Additional Tasks:
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
- Prepare training materials and support consultants in coaching partner institutions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Nutrition, Food Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in donor-assisted projects or similar private sector roles.
- Experience collaborating with private sector actors such as farmers, processors, and investors.
- Familiarity with food safety standards, dietary plan development, and rice value chains.
- Knowledge of stock control, quality assurance measures, and marketing options.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel and work in a multinational environment.
- Proficient in English and relevant Ghanaian languages; French is an added advantage.
