German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Begin Three-Day State Visit to Ghana on November 2

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to arrive in Ghana on Sunday, November 2, 2025, for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening the long-standing partnership between Ghana and Germany.

The visit, which comes at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and development, underscoring the deep historical and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Official Ceremonies and Bilateral Talks at Jubilee House

According to the Government Communications Ministry, official engagements will commence in Accra on Monday, November 3, beginning with a full military Guard of Honour and a welcome ceremony at the Forecourt of the Jubilee House.

Following the ceremonial inspection, both leaders will hold a closed-door meeting, after which they will lead their respective delegations for broad bilateral discussions in the Credentials Room.

A State Luncheon will be hosted in honour of President Steinmeier and his delegation at the Presidential Banquet Hall.

“The visit underscores the strong and enduring partnership between Ghana and Germany and is expected to open a new chapter of enhanced cooperation for mutual benefit,” said Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to President Mahama.

Cultural and Technology Engagements in Accra

Later in the day, President Steinmeier will pay tribute to Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

His itinerary will also include an interactive session with young Ghanaian IT professionals, highlighting Germany’s support for technology, innovation, and youth empowerment in Africa.

The day will conclude with a reception hosted at the German Ambassador’s residence in Accra, attended by government officials, business leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Visit to Kumasi and Engagement with KNUST

On Tuesday, November 4, the German President will travel to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, where he will perform a sod-cutting ceremony for a development project at the Kumasi Technical Institute.

He will also visit the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to engage with the Vice-Chancellor, faculty, and alumni — a move aimed at strengthening educational and research partnerships between Ghana and Germany.

President Steinmeier’s Kumasi engagements will include a tour of the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR), one of Ghana’s premier research institutions, followed by a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.

Departure and Expected Outcomes

President Steinmeier is expected to depart Ghana on the evening of Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

The high-level visit is anticipated to boost German investment in Ghana’s technology, renewable energy, and manufacturing sectors, while also deepening diplomatic and cultural ties.
