Liberal Party of Ghana Commends NDC Government for Fuel Price Reduction

The Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for the recent reduction in fuel prices, describing it as timely relief for households, transport operators, and businesses across the country. The fuel price reduction has eased economic pressure at a time when many Ghanaians are struggling with the cost of living.

The LPG noted that while global crude oil prices have declined, such reductions do not always translate into lower fuel prices locally, making the current development significant.

LPG Applauds Policy Choices Behind Fuel Price Cut

In a statement signed by LPG General Secretary Jerry Owusu Appauh, the party acknowledged that domestic pricing structures and policy decisions often prevent consumers from benefiting from falling global crude oil prices.

“In many cases, Ghanaian consumers have not benefitted from falling crude prices due to domestic pricing structures and policy choices,” the statement noted.

According to the LPG, the current fuel price reduction reflects deliberate government action rather than automatic market forces.

Impact of Lower Fuel Prices on the Economy

The party highlighted several benefits associated with the fuel price cut, including:

  • Reduced transportation costs

  • Lower pressure on food prices

  • Improved business operations

  • Support for overall economic activity

The LPG described the move as one of the rare instances in recent years where global price gains have been realistically passed on to consumers at fuel pumps.
