The Ghana Prisons Service has officially announced the commencement of its 2025 recruitment exercise, which opens on November 15, 2025. Applications will be accepted for both Senior Officer and Junior Officer categories across various departments. Interested and qualified Ghanaian citizens are encouraged to review all eligibility criteria before applying.
This exercise is part of a broader national effort to strengthen Ghana’s internal security framework, alongside similar recruitments by the Ghana National Fire Service and other agencies under the Ministry of the Interior.
General Eligibility – Senior Officer Recruitment
Applicants must meet the following basic requirements:

Be a Ghanaian citizen by birth with no criminal record.

Have completed National Service.

Be computer literate.
-
Be between 18 and 35 years old by November 1, 2025.

Be physically and medically fit according to Prisons Service standards.

Not be bonded by any organization.
-
Not have been dismissed from any public or private employment.

Have a minimum height of 1.68m (5ft 6in) for males and 1.57m (5ft 2in) for females.
-
Have an active email and mobile number for communication.
Categories for Senior Officers
1. General Duties
Applicants must possess at least a First Degree (Second Class Lower or better) from an accredited university in Humanities, Social Sciences, or related fields, plus one year of relevant experience.
2. Agriculture
Holders of degrees in Animal Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, Agribusiness, or Agricultural Engineering with at least one year of post-qualification experience are eligible.
3. Education
Applicants must hold a degree in Basic Education, Early Childhood Education, or Guidance and Counselling with at least one year of experience.
4. Legal Officers
Candidates must have an LLB/BL, be called to the Bar, and have at least one year post-qualification experience.
5. Medical Professionals
Includes Medical Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses, Psychologists, and Laboratory Technologists, all of whom must be duly registered with the relevant professional bodies.
6. Public Affairs
Applicants must have a degree in Communication Studies, Public Relations, or Journalism. Prior experience in media or corporate communications is an added advantage.
7. Technical and Engineering Fields
Degree holders in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Construction Engineering, Land Economy, or Quantity Surveying are encouraged to apply.
8. Religious Affairs
Open to ordained ministers, chaplains, and imams with a recognized theological or Islamic studies degree and membership in an approved religious body.
9. Creative Arts & Culture
Applicants with relevant qualifications in Drama, Music, Theatre, or Cultural Studies are welcome.
Note: Successful candidates will be appointed as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP), except for Medical Doctors, Dental Surgeons, and Legal Officers, who may enter at higher ranks.
Junior Officer Recruitment – Basic Requirements
To qualify for the Junior Officer category, applicants must:

Be Ghanaian citizens with no criminal record.

Be between 18 and 32 years old (or 35 for artisans).

Have at least a BECE certificate with five passes.
-
Meet the minimum height requirements (1.68m for males, 1.57m for females).

Be medically and physically fit.
-
Be ready to undergo training and not be bonded to any organization.
Categories for Junior Officers
1. General Duties
Must possess SSSCE/WASSCE with at least five passes. Candidates with a Stenographer Certificate may also apply.
2. Medical
Includes General Nurses, Midwives, Mental Health Nurses, Laboratory Technicians, and other allied health professionals. Applicants must hold a Diploma or HND from an accredited institution and be registered with the appropriate health council.
3. Agriculture
Positions are open for General Agric, Veterinary/Animal Health, Tractor Operators, and Horticulturists with relevant technical or vocational certificates.
4. Tradesmen
Skilled artisans in Plumbing, Masonry, Carpentry, Welding, Electricals, Tailoring, and Mechanics are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have at least a GES Intermediate, COVET, NVTI, or City & Guilds Certificate with one year of work experience.
5. Music and Band
Applicants must have musical proficiency and be able to read sheet music or play a band instrument.
6. Information Technology & Communication
Openings for Network Technicians, Web Designers, Computer Hardware Technicians, and Radio Operators with recognized technical qualifications.
7. Public Relations & Creative Arts
Includes Videographers, Graphic Designers, Editors, and Photographers with at least a Diploma from UNIMAC or any accredited institution.
8. Sports
Qualified athletes in disciplines such as Football, Boxing, Taekwondo, and Athletics are encouraged to apply.
Important Notes for Applicants
